Donating an Artifact

From time to time, members of the public want to give the museum artifacts, books, photographs or archival materials to add to the collections. While we appreciate and are honored by these generous-spirited offers, we can’t accept everything due to space and staffing limitations. To make it as easy as possible for both the prospective donor and the museum staff, we ask prospective donors to please fill out this one page proposed acquisition form as a first step. In the next step, the museum staff reviews the form and evaluates the proposed items to see how they fit with what we already have in the collection.

The museum maintains a Collections Management Policy that is meant to cover all aspects of the acquisition, care, use and disposition of objects for which the museum is permanently or temporarily guardian. It sets forth guidelines for the creation, maintenance, care and use of the records for such objects.
