The Cornish-Windsor bridge was built in 1866, and is a fine example of the lattice truss style patented by Ithiel Town. It is comprised of two spans, 203 feet and 204 feet in length. It is the longest historic wooden covered bridge in the United States and the longest two-span covered bridge in the world. The current bridge replaced three bridges previously built on the site in 1796, 1824 and 1828. It is the work of prominent early New England bridge builders James Tasker and Bela Fletcher. The State of New Hampshire purchased it in 1936 and operated it as a toll bridge until 1943. The bridge was closed to traffic in 1987 for restoration and reopened in 1989. The American Society of Civil Engineers designated it as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1970. The Cornish-Windsor Bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
